Septima P. Clark Corporate Academy known as Clark Academy (Clark) is a Countywide Magnet Academic Alternative Program. In 1990, following a study by Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, Charleston County School District was advised to implement dropout prevention programs for students who were “at-risk” of dropping out of school and not receiving a high school diploma.

Charleston County School District (CCSD) in partnership with Communities in Schools (CIS) established Clark Academy that emerged as Charleston County’s first Alternative High School. A low student to teacher ratio and a comprehensive support staff for students who have previously not excelled in the traditional school setting were offered. In 1993, fourteen seniors comprised the first graduating class. Our current Seniors are slated to graduate at the end of May 2018 completing a tremendous milestone for Septima P. Clark Corporate Academy. After reaching a quarter of a century, it will be our Silver Jubilee for our graduating Class of 2018. We look forward to the next 25 years of graduates to reach even “higher heights and deeper depths”.
